Award Winning Project

Hardaway Construction Corp. and LP Building Products teamed with DA│AD Architecture as the core build team to build a new state of the art pre-school for Lighthouse Christian Pre-School which was devastated in the May 2010 floods in the Nashville area.  With only six weeks notice to design and plan for construction, and one week to build the facility, the Nashville community came together and gave back to an institution that had given so much to the local community.

When the devastating 500 year flood on May 1, 2010 hit, news coverage found Lighthouse Christian School in the center of the national spotlight with TV stations featuring footage of their school building floating down the interstate.  At the center of the tragedy, was the family who has been running the school since 2003 – the Sweatt Family.  Despite the extensive damage and great loss to their facility, the Sweatt family demonstrated true Tennessee volunteerism and spearheaded recovery efforts that provided shelter, food, water, clothing, counseling, and myriad of other social and financial services for more than 200 families in the local community.

Lighthouse certainly lived up to its name being a symbol for what is second nature to the people that live in Tennessee.  The flood devastation to Lighthouse Christian School left them faced with the brutal reality of having to shut down the entire school after 30 years of developing young minds.  Eight of the eighteen buildings on their campus were damaged beyond repair in the storms, and their pre-school was completely demolished.  Their finances were nearly depleted, and they did not have the resources to rebuild the school.  They were a beacon of hope to a shattered community, but now they needed some support.  Enter Extreme Makeover, Hardaway Construction Corp., LP Building Products, DA│AD Architecture, and GS & F.
