MTSU James E. Walker Library
A 267,000 SF, 4-story main library building for a large state university. Construction consisted of monolithic concrete columns with 11.5 inch thick flat floor slabs to allow for maximum flexibility of utility routing. Exterior walls are concrete masonry units with brick veneer facing. Large blue tinted glass panels and brick architectural precast cornices and trim form handsome facades in all four directions.
Features include stack areas with a capacity of over 800,000 volumes, 4-story atrium lobby, electronic learning centers, study rooms, collections management and other administrative and support facilities. The building is designed with a high degree of state-of-the-art technology and flexibility for varying needs far into the future.
