State of Tennessee Bicentennial Capitol Mall

A 20-acre urban park built to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the State. The design was inspired by the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Unique features include a 250-foot long granite map of the State, 31 fountains representing the major waterways, 29 granite pylons each 22 feet tall, commemorating the State’s history, a World War II Memorial, 95 buried time capsules, and a 95-bell carillon with each capsule and each bell representing one of the State’s 95 counties. The entire area is richly landscaped with grass, plants, and trees indicative of the various regions of the State.
